Read The Sites Terms of Use

It is important that you read the dating site’s terms of use carefully before you create a subscription.

Consider, for example, how long you lock yourself into that particular dating service. And double check for information about how to cancel, should you decide the service isn’t for you. If you can’t find either, or if they’re vague and confusing, run!

If you can’t find clear and adequate information about the terms of using the site, the price, and/or the cancellation notice period, think before you sign up.

It’s also a good idea to check online whether other users are having good or bad experiences with the site. Consumer advocates, various State and country agencies, including State and Country Attorney Generals, have received complaints from consumers who have reported that after creating a free profile, on a dating site, they must upgrade to a paid membership to read messages from other users. So, complaints about dating sites are fairly easy to find.

Some consumers fall victim to auto-generated activity from the site. In some cases, consumers have been automatically upgraded to a paid membership or was forced to upgrade. And when they did, they were locked into a long-term membership.

And even after this, troubles continue. Some of them found it extremely difficult to get out of the subscription when trying to cancel. There have also been examples of a person’s profile appearing on multiple sites that they did not sign up. This because the owner of the original site created spin-off sites and added profiles without consent to make their new sites look like they have a lot of activity.

Cancellation and Refunds

Depending on the dating site, you may get a free trial and have from 14 to 30 days to cancel your subscription without being charged. However, as detailed above, you may find yourself being charged for a full month because you were auto-enrolled to a paid service without your permission.

Sometimes, you may find that you need to upgrade to a paid membership just to read messages from other users. This is one reason why you need to read the terms carefully before you upgrade your membership.

Please also note that if you give away the rights to the images/pictures you upload to the site owner, your pictures may be used for marketing purposes.

Avoiding dating website scams in search of love isn’t difficult. You just have to make sure you read the terms of use and know what you’re signing up for.
